Hi Everyone,

Whenever I sing, speak etc. into my mic my voice is accompanied by background snow. It's not very noticeable when I sing, but it still gets on my nerves. Am I correct in assuming it's because I'm using the mic I got with my survival pack, which I presume is a low-end one?

TIA

Philip

Philip, before making a diagnosis, we'll need to know the type of mic, and what system you are running the vocals through.

Hi Gary,

The mic is a Koss m11. It came with the Yamaha survival kit. No system, just the keyboard.

It could be the mic, but it also could be several other things.
The compressor may be on if it's just making the noise when you are NOT singing or speaking.
The input level may be too high.
The e.q. on either the overall mixer or on the microphone, or both, may have excessive highs set.
You may have a DSP set on the mic that is not appropriate.
You may have electrical interference from nearby source, such as a fluorescent light or other appliance.
I would reset everything to the factory default settings. It shouldn't be making any noise then. Then, try a different mic.
I suspect it is something other than the mic though.
My 2100 produces crystal clear vocal with no noise at all.
Let us know if any of this helps.

Don hit all the problem areas I would have suspected as well. While I suspect it's not the mic, it's always a good idea to try another mic--just to be on the safe side.

Good Luck,

Gary

After over a year I've just started experimenting with the Mic input. I'mn driving it with an SM48 via a Mic Transformer, so I get a line-level signal. The transformer is an enclosed metal in-line unit but I think the earthing is faulty because I get a lot of noise if the transformer is anywhere near the LCD.

Soldering iron will be out shortly!

I'm having a similar problem with my 2100 - whenever I talk/sing, there is a low beeping noise coming thru - very annoying!
Any suggestions? I have a Shure57 mic

I didn't have much luck using a transformer. When I plug directly into the KB, I use a cable with XLR on the mic end and 1/4" on the other.
Most of the time I send a signal from a mixer.
